A psychiatrist friend of mine who lives in California and works with veterans shared with me the three tools he uses to remain calm and focused as he journeys along with the rest of us through the pandemic:
One: Every day find something to be grateful for.
Two: Every day do something that makes that day more meaningful
Three: Watch only as much news as you need to watch for information; no more, no less.
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday which was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.
If you're looking for something to make your day more meaningful tomorrow, consider making a donation to the students at St. Gabriel's School in Fontaine, Haiti. The school is closed right now due to the virus and many of the students' parents are out of work. Any donation you make will go directly to Pierre Louis Joizil, the school's director, to use in whatever way will most bring relief to the students and their families in Fontaine.
Given its rural location we're hoping the virus doesn't reach Fontaine but that may be more wishful thinking.
You can make your donation through our webpage: www.friendsoffontaine.com. Our webpage is being "tweaked" for relaunching but the donate button should work. If you have problems with it, send your donation to Friends of Fontaine, % Rev. David E. Noone, 730 Villagio Pl. Apt. 408, Fayetteville, N.C.
We've already received our first donation from Lynnly Tydings, a teacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Olney, Md. Students, faculty and staff have been super generous to St. Gabriel's over the years. Many of them have visited St. Gabriel's. The school is directing its "Giving Tuesdays" efforts towards our school in Haiti.
